How a bank card’s EMV chip works and why it cannot be cloned

An EMV chip is a microcomputer with secure memory. For every transaction it generates a unique cryptogram that the bank verifies with its own keys. Copying the magnetic stripe is not enough: without the chip’s keys the payment will not go through.
